Why This Sensor Fails

The sensor reads a toothed wheel on the crankshaft, so it works in a hot, oily environment and its signal degrades as the winding or the connector ages. A failing sensor typically causes a no-start, an intermittent stall or a sudden loss of power, and it often sets a crankshaft signal fault before it fails completely.
